This is a fitness event for U16 racers at the Lower Mainland in BC.
Alpine skiing has always been a physically demanding sport. With changing equipment the physical challenges have even increased over the last few years.
Fitness at all levels - agility, endurance, power, speed, coordination - is, thus, key for success in ski racing and for an injury free and successful career.
To motivate the young U16 athletes to work on their fitness in the off-season period, coaches Jordan Williams (National SkiX Team) and Tamara Schaupp (Grouse Mountain Tyee Ski Club) have joined forces to create an exciting and challenging fitness event that tests all important fitness components in a fun way.
The first event took place on October 20th, 2013 in North Vancouver. Check out Details at Events and Venues. This event is meant to become an annual event. We are now in the 10th year of the AAC event, which will take place on October 30th, 2022 in North Vancouver.
The goal is to set up courses and circuits that challenge the U16 athlete's speed, agility, spatial awareness, endurance and coordination.
Since the skiing itself is expensive, we feel that this event should be for FREE for all participants. We will also offer subsidies for athletes coming over from Vancouver Island (ferry cost, accommodation) who need to stay overnight.
Prizes for the top three female and male athletes will be GRAND! As will be the draw prizes. We will have avalanche beacons for the top placing athletes. The trophy - one for male and one for female Alpine Athletic Champion - goes to the winning club for one year until it is handed over to the new winners.
Mark your calendar and start preparing - there is nothing to lose only to win!
